Celebrate the Derby at Racing for COMU This Saturday!

There’s something about early May that calls for a good hat, a great cause, and a reason to gather. On Saturday, May 2, The Columbus Museum invites the community to do just that at Racing for COMU—a spirited evening where Derby Day tradition meets the arts.

This annual fundraiser blends the pageantry of horse racing with the heart of Columbus’ cultural scene, creating an experience that feels equal parts celebration and support. Guests are encouraged to don their best Derby looks and settle in for an afternoon of betting, games, and shared excitement—all in support of the Museum’s mission to bring art and American history to life for our community.

Here’s how it works: place your bets in $50 increments at the event’s betting station. For every $50 wagered, you’ll receive a raffle entry—and a shot at the Grand Prize if your horse comes out on top. This year’s grand prize? An original artwork by Erin Gregory, a meaningful addition to any collection and a reminder of the creative spirit that fuels COMU.

But the excitement doesn’t stop at the finish line.

The evening will feature food by Chef Jamie Keating of EPIC Catering and live music by The Shelby Brothers.

All bettors will be entered into additional raffle drawings featuring experiences designed to be savored. Think a seven-night Tuscan getaway for four in Manciano, Italy—no expiration date, just the promise of future memories. Or a Chef’s Table experience for four at EPIC Restaurant, where the city’s culinary talent takes center stage. There’s also a curated wine tasting experience sponsored by The Bottle Shop, perfect for those who appreciate a well-paired evening.

Tickets are limited, with pricing set at $125 for members and $150 for non-members (which includes a one-year Individual Membership). And like any good race, this one rewards those who show up ready to participate—the more you bet, the more chances you have to win.

At its core, Racing for COMU is about more than prizes or pageantry. It’s about showing up for the spaces that shape our sense of place. It’s about investing in a Museum that continues to evolve, inspire, and invite us all in.

So gather your friends, place your bets, and come ready to cheer—for your horse, for the arts, and for a community that knows how to celebrate both.◼️
