Six Columbus-based arts organizations have just been awarded state funding through the Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA). These grants are part of GCA’s annual effort to support cultural institutions across the state of Georgia that are enriching lives and fueling creative economies across the state.
“These grants support programs that benefit Georgians by encouraging students to develop technical and creative skills, boosting tourism, energizing public spaces, and solving community issues,” said Georgia Council for the Arts Executive Director Tina Lilly. “With this vital funding, GCA is able to support the growth of healthy, vibrant communities all across the state. We are grateful for the support that the Georgia General Assembly provides Georgia Council for the Arts and the arts sector across Georgia.”
This year's GCA recipients include the following Columbus organizations:
RiverCenter for the Performing Arts
The Springer Opera House
The Columbus Museum
The Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus
The Columbus Botanical Garden
and The Columbus Ballet.
These organizations represent a vibrant cross-section of the city’s creative and cultural life— from world-class performances and art exhibitions o immersive educational programming and the preservation of both natural beauty and artistic tradition. Funding from the Georgia Council for the Arts doesn't just help keep the lights on, it's an investment in the creative soul of Georgia's communities across the board. The GCA grant program is highly competitive, so the funding received by these Columbus organizations is a testament to the city’s commitment to nurturing and sustaining the arts.
At a time when arts organizations continue to face challenges in the wake of the pandemic and shifting funding landscapes, this support from the state affirms what many in Columbus already know: the arts are not a luxury—they are essential.
