For 25 years, the lights have dimmed in downtown Columbus, the curtain has risen, and audiences from across the Chattahoochee Valley have gathered together inside RiverCenter for the Performing Arts to experience the transformative power of live performance. The stage is set for a new chapter to begin.
Now, as the beloved performing arts venue prepares to celebrate its 25th Anniversary Season, RiverCenter is doing so with what leaders describe as the most ambitious and diverse lineup in the organization’s history.
The newly announced 2026–2027 season includes more than 25 performances spanning Broadway productions, comedy, jazz, bluegrass, dance, cirque, family programming, and community-centered events. Audiences can expect major titles like The Music Man, Hadestown, and Legally Blonde alongside acclaimed artists and groups including The Avett Brothers, Béla Fleck, Take 6, and John Crist.
But beyond the marquee names and touring productions, the anniversary season also serves as a reflection point for a venue that has helped shape the cultural identity of Columbus for a quarter century.
When RiverCenter first opened in May 2002 as a result of The Columbus Challenge, it carried with it a bold vision: to establish Columbus as a destination for world-class performing arts. Twenty-five years later, that vision has become deeply woven into the fabric of the community. More than one million patrons have attended performances within its walls, while hundreds of national and international productions have made their way to the Fountain City because of the venue and its audiences.

Today, RiverCenter stands not only as a performance venue, but as one of the region’s most important cultural anchors that serves to bring the community together in essential ways.
The organization serves as the permanent home for the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus, and the Schwob School of Music, helping sustain a thriving ecosystem of musicians, educators, performers, and arts advocates throughout the region.
Its impact also reaches far beyond the stage.
Through RiverCenter’s ArtsReach initiative, thousands of students across the Chattahoochee Valley have experienced live professional performances—many for the very first time. In a community where arts access can shape confidence, creativity, and belonging, those moments matter.
“Twenty-five years is a milestone worth celebrating, but what we're really celebrating is this community,” said Lee Foster, Executive Director of RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, in the season announcement. “Columbus has supported this institution from day one, and in return, we've worked hard to bring in programming that people can't find anywhere else in the region.”
That relationship between audience and institution is part of what makes RiverCenter feel so personal to so many in Columbus, Georgia. Generations of residents have attended their first Broadway show there. Parents have introduced children to orchestral music within its halls. Students have stepped onto its stages dreaming about futures in the arts. Families have returned year after year for holiday traditions, concerts, dance performances, and community celebrations.
It’s true. RiverCenter has become a major player in how Columbus, Georgia gathers together to enjoy shared experiences.
The 25th Anniversary Season reflects that spirit with programming intentionally designed to welcome longtime patrons and first-time visitors alike. Broadway lovers, music enthusiasts, comedy fans, families, and students will all find opportunities to connect through live performance during the year ahead.
As the organization looks toward its next 25 years, community support remains essential.
Institutions like RiverCenter for the Performing Arts do not thrive on performances alone. They thrive because audiences continue showing up. Because donors invest in access to the arts. Because local families buy tickets, bring friends, attend student matinees, and believe that arts & culture is something worth sustaining in Columbus, Georgia.
The arts are not extra to a thriving city—they are part of what gives a community its sense of place.
This anniversary season is an invitation not only to celebrate RiverCenter’s past, but to actively participate in its future. Whether through purchasing tickets, supporting educational programming, making donations, or simply filling seats and applauding loudly, the community has the opportunity to help ensure that this artistic treasure continues inspiring the Chattahoochee Valley for generations to come. ◼️
